Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician (HVAC)Job Description

The Facilities Maintenance Technician (HVAC) installs, inspects, maintains, and repairs HVAC and refrigeration systems across campus facilities under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor. This role responds to service calls, troubleshoots equipment issues, performs preventive maintenance, and ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including EPA and institutional standards. The technician works closely with other trades to support overall building maintenance and reliable facility operations.

Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems across campus facilities.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and work orders related to HVAC, refrigeration, and general building maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and HVAC system issues and implement effective repairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and related building systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Assist with general facilities maintenance tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and basic electrical work.
  • Diagnose equipment problems accurately and determine appropriate solutions using technical knowledge and tools.
  • Collaborate with other trades and maintenance staff to complete projects and resolve facility issues efficiently.
  • Follow EPA regulations and institutional safety standards in all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are used and stored properly.
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor areas throughout the campus, including hospital facilities, as required by maintenance needs.
Essential Skills
  • At least two (2) years of maintenance experience in a hospital, diversified building maintenance, or construction environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with HVAC systems, including installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair.
  • EPA Certification for handling refrigerants and working with HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment problems and identify effective repair solutions.
  • Proficiency in general building maintenance, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical troubleshooting, painting, and drywall repair.
  • Understanding of and ability to follow safety and environmental regulations, including EPA and institutional safety standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in both indoor and outdoor environments across a campus setting.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Technical or trade school education in HVAC, electrical, electronics, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Electrical and mechanical experience preferred, particularly in facility or industrial maintenance settings.
  • Experience working in hospital or healthcare facilities is beneficial.
  • Ability to collaborate with other trades and maintenance personnel on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in diagnosing and repairing building systems.
  • Capability to manage multiple service calls and maintenance tasks while maintaining quality and safety.

Work Environment

The role is based across a hospital campus and involves both indoor and outdoor work throughout the facilities. Technicians work in a variety of building environments, including clinical and support areas, mechanical rooms, and exterior spaces. The position requires regular interaction with HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other building systems, following strict safety and environmental standards. Work may involve exposure to changing weather conditions when outdoors and typical mechanical and building maintenance conditions when indoors.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
