Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Litigation Attorney to lead and manage complex commercial and business litigation matters, including partnership disputes and trial proceedings. The ideal candidate will develop and implement litigation strategy, supervise associates, and drive successful outcomes for clients through effective advocacy, negotiation, and case management. This role balances high-level legal analysis with hands-on courtroom experience and client relationship leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse portfolio of complex commercial and business litigation matters, including partnership and shareholder disputes, breach of contract claims, and related business controversies.
- Lead all phases of litigation from intake through trial and appeal, including case assessment, discovery strategy, motion practice, evidentiary preparation, and trial advocacy.
- Take primary responsibility for trial preparation and courtroom advocacy, including jury selection, witness examination, evidentiary objections, and closing arguments.
- Advise clients on litigation risk, resolution strategies, and business implications; develop pragmatic solutions that align with clients commercial objectives.
- Draft and argue dispositive and interim motions, appellate briefs, settlement agreements, and other substantive court filings with precision and persuasive advocacy.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop associates and paralegals; delegate tasks effectively and ensure high-quality legal work product and adherence to firm standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues across practice groups and, where appropriate, coordinate with outside counsel, experts, and third-party vendors.
- Drive business development activities, including pitching for new engagements, maintaining client relationships, and generating referrals.
- Manage case budgets, billing, and client communications to ensure transparency and efficient use of resources.
- Stay current on developments in commercial, business, and complex litigation law and relevant procedural rules to ensure best practice representation.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in which the attorney will practice.
- Minimum 8-10 years of litigation experience, with substantial experience in commercial litigation, business litigation, and complex litigation matters.
- Proven trial experience with a track record of leading successful trials or major courtroom roles in complex disputes.
- Demonstrated experience handling partnership and shareholder disputes and related business controversies.
- Outstanding legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; experience drafting dispositive motions and appellate filings.
- Strong strategic thinking, case management, and client counseling abilities; comfortable advising senior executives and boards on litigation exposure and resolution options.
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior attorneys and support staff in a fast-paced litigation practice.
- Excellent negotiation skills, settlement strategy experience, and familiarity with alternative dispute resolution procedures (mediation, arbitration).
- Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously, with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- High ethical standards, professional judgment, and commitment to delivering superior client service.
- Willingness to travel and appear in courts and forums as required.
