Job Title: Metrology Technician

Job Description

The Metrology Technician (Level 1 or 2) supports process technology teams by running metrology processes, selecting and executing the correct metrology recipes, and accurately measuring wafers using specialized metrology tools. This role requires strict adherence to standard operating procedures, close coordination with shift supervision, and a strong focus on quality, precision, and detailed documentation. The position is on a back-end night shift schedule, providing critical metrology coverage for the lab and ensuring seamless communication between shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Run metrology processes to support process technology teams, ensuring wafers are measured accurately and efficiently.
  • Select and apply the correct metrology recipe for each wafer based on instructions from process engineers or technicians.
  • Load wafers into metrology tools following established instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Operate metrology equipment such as KLA Tencor SP1, SP3, SP5, XRF, and S100 tools to perform required measurements.
  • Provide measurement results and data back to Process Technicians promptly upon completion of metrology runs.
  • Collect, organize, and store metrology data using SharePoint, maintaining accurate records for ongoing process steps.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed pass-down reports to the next shift and to Process Engineers to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Interact with the shift supervisor to communicate estimated tool release times, shift status, abnormal events, and development activities.
  • Document and follow all standard operating procedures to maintain consistency and compliance with lab requirements.
  • Maintain a high level of energy and focus on quality and detail in all tasks, ensuring reliable and repeatable measurement results.
  • Track and report daily activities through clear verbal updates and written pass-down documentation.
  • Contribute to overall metrology coverage for the lab by working collaboratively within the Metrology team.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with metrology tools, including KLA Tencor SP1, SP3, SP5, XRF, and S100.
  • Ability to select and run appropriate metrology recipes to measure wafers accurately.
  • Clean room experience and familiarity with clean room protocols and practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, verified through references or prior performance.
  • Ability to follow and document standard operating procedures consistently.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with shift supervisors, process engineers, and process technicians.
  • Basic proficiency with data collection and documentation tools such as SharePoint.
  • For Level 1: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or at least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • For Level 1: Internship experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • For Level 2: Associate degree or higher in a technical or engineering discipline, or more than 1 year of relevant experience.
  • For Level 2: At least 1 year of experience in semiconductor tool operation.

Work Environment

This role operates within a clean room and laboratory environment as part of a dedicated Metrology team that provides coverage for metrology tasks across the entire lab. The primary schedule is a back-end night shift, typically Wednesday through Friday and alternating Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with additional shift patterns that may include Sunday through Tuesday and alternating Wednesday day shifts, and Wednesday through Friday and alternating Saturday nights. Work involves regular use of advanced metrology tools such as KLA Tencor SP1, SP3, SP5, XRF, and S100, as well as data collection and reporting through SharePoint. The environment emphasizes precise measurement, strict adherence to procedures, and continuous communication, with daily activities tracked and reported through verbal updates and written pass-down documentation. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00/hr.
