Job Description
The Maintenance Technician provides comprehensive technical and mechanical support for all process equipment and building systems within an animal facility. This role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of equipment, executing preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facility. The technician also supports continuous improvement of maintenance procedures and may supervise external contractors to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities- Provide technical and mechanical support for all process equipment and systems to ensure reliable operation of the animal facility.
- Diagnose, repair, and service equipment and systems including isolators, autoclaves, boilers, clean steam systems, incubators, HVAC systems, controlled temperature units, and related mechanical components.
- Perform pump seal replacements, pump rebuilds, and plumbing and piping work as needed to maintain system performance.
- Execute preventive and corrective work orders according to schedule and ensure timely and accurate closure of all work orders.
- Supervise outside contractors performing facility and equipment-related services to ensure work quality, safety, and compliance with facility standards.
- Respond to building alarms and equipment or system alarms during normal business hours and off hours, taking appropriate action to resolve issues.
- Participate in on-call duties as required to support 24/7 facility operations.
- Assist with the development, review, and improvement of department procedures, documentation, and operating and maintenance practices.
- Perform a wide variety of general building maintenance and repair services across the facility.
- Install and repair items such as light bulbs, doors, bulletin boards, and cabinets to maintain a safe and functional environment.
- Paint interior and exterior walls and perform drywall work as needed to keep the facility in good condition.
- Assemble furniture and fixtures to support facility needs.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on building mechanical equipment, including inspecting belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and addressing minor mechanical issues.
- Maintain accurate equipment records of repairs and preventive maintenance performed.
- Keep all work areas and mechanical rooms clean, safe, and well organized to support efficient and safe operations.
- Create and maintain an organized parts and materials inventory and ensure accountability and proper care of tools.
- Perform minor and major repairs of all buildings and non-network-related equipment, including work on major appliances, boilers, autoclaves, plumbing, electrical systems, and general carpentry tasks.
- Perform drywall work and painting as required to maintain and improve facility spaces.
- Hands-on maintenance experience supporting building systems and process equipment in a technical or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and servicing equipment such as isolators, autoclaves, boilers, clean steam systems, incubators, HVAC systems, and controlled temperature units.
- Strong HVAC skills, including troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- Electrical maintenance skills, including basic troubleshooting and repair of building electrical systems and equipment.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance, including inspecting belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and completing scheduled maintenance tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Mechanical aptitude, including experience with pump seals, pump rebuilds, and general mechanical repairs.
- Experience with drywall work and painting for facility maintenance and repair.
- Ability to manage and close work orders accurately and on time.
- Willingness and ability to participate in on-call rotation and respond to alarms during and outside of normal business hours.
- Capability to supervise and coordinate outside contractors performing facility and equipment-related services.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain clean, safe, and well-organized work areas and mechanical rooms.
- Experience working in environments that follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) or similarly regulated standards.
- Background in general building maintenance, including major appliances, boilers, autoclaves, plumbing, electrical, and general carpentry.
- Familiarity with maintaining equipment records and documentation of preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Comfort working in an animal facility and supporting the unique requirements of this type of environment.
- Ability to assemble furniture and perform basic facility improvements.
- Strong attention to detail and accountability for tools, parts, and materials inventory.

Work EnvironmentThis role is based in an animal facility that relies on well-maintained mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems to support daily operations. You will work with a variety of equipment, including major appliances, boilers, autoclaves, clean steam systems, incubators, controlled temperature units, and building mechanical systems. The position involves both mechanical rooms and general building areas, with regular movement throughout the facility to perform maintenance and repairs. You will work with tools, parts, and materials in an environment that emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and organization. The role requires responsiveness to building and equipment alarms, including participation in an on-call rotation, which may involve work outside standard business hours. Dress will align with a maintenance and facility environment, and may include appropriate protective clothing and gear as required for safety and for working in an animal facility.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr.
