Job Description
Our client is seeking a Senior Patent Attorney in Seattle, WA. This role focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, patent licensing, opinion drafting, and due diligence. The attorney will work closely with clients, inventors, and firm attorneys on complex intellectual property matters.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in chemical patent practice, particularly within pharmaceuticals, biologics, diagnostics, and materials science, along with strong technical expertise and business development capabilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and prosecute domestic and international patent applications.
Work with the USPTO to address patent examiner questions and prosecution matters.
Advise clients on patent protection strategies and intellectual property matters.
Assist clients with patent licensing and infringement-related issues.
Draft patent opinions and conduct intellectual property due diligence.
Support the firm's litigation department on patent-related matters.
Monitor existing and proposed patents.
Handle patent renewals and general patent protection inquiries.
Participate in client meetings and conference calls with U.S. and international contacts.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships and business development opportunities.
J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
Advanced degree in Organic Chemistry or a related scientific field.
10+ years of experience in chemical patent practice.
Experience with pharmaceutical patent matters, including small molecules and biologics.
Experience with diagnostics and materials science is preferred.
Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Licensed to practice law in at least one state (Washington admission preferred).
Prior industry experience in organic chemistry is preferred.
Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment while managing responsibilities independently.
Strong business development skills.
