Job Description

Position Purpose

To drive all aspects of daily store operations, including buying, selling, pricing, and merchandising gently used children's clothing, gear, and toys. This role promotes a high level of customer service by ensuring guests are assisted in an enthusiastic, timely, and knowledgeable manner. Sales Associates assist store management in maintaining a vibrant retail environment while executing the unique buy-and-sell business model of Once Upon a Child. Bilingual highly preferred (English & Spanish)

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Customer Service & Sales: Greet customers immediately upon entry, establish rapport, and determine their specific needs. Execute standard sales protocols to maximize transactions, proactively recommending complementary items, features, and benefits to increase average basket size and ensure total customer satisfaction.

  • Buying Operations: Learn and apply brand buying guidelines to evaluate, price, and purchase gently used items brought in by the public. Confidently explain the buying process to customers, reinforce their sales to the store, and build brand loyalty by inviting them to return to buy, sell, or trade.

  • Merchandising & Inventory: Price, ticket, and tag inventory accurately according to corporate pricing matrixes. Restock the sales floor daily following the store’s visual merchandising plan, creating appealing displays that optimize product visibility and drive sales.

  • Point of Sale (POS) Proficiency: Operate the computerized POS and sales tracking system with high accuracy. Efficiently process cash, credit, gift card, and store credit transactions for all sales, buys, trades, and returns while maintaining an accurate cash drawer.

  • Store Maintenance: Maintain rigorous housekeeping standards to ensure a clean, safe, and organized shopping environment. Duties include organizing racks, cleaning equipment, sanitizing toys, and keeping both the sales floor and buying counter-clutter-free.

  • Goal Achievement: Actively work toward meeting and exceeding personal and store-wide daily, weekly, and monthly sales and buying targets.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Prior retail or customer service experience is preferred, specifically within apparel or children's product lines, though the store is willing to train candidates with the right attitude.

  • Skills: Proven customer service skills with the ability to handle multi-tasking in a fast-paced retail environment.

  • Teamwork: Strong ability to collaborate well as a team member, accept constructive feedback from management, and execute directions effectively.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to engage enthusiastically with parents, grandparents, and children.

  • Drive: Highly motivated, sales-driven, and goal-oriented mindset.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for long periods, bend, reach, and lift up to 40 lbs. of bins or merchandise routinely.

The exact shifts required for the Sales Associate position depend on whether you are hiring for full-time or part-time roles, but they generally align with the operating hours of the Once Upon a Child Kissimmee store.

The store operates daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Standard shift options and availability requirements for this role typically include:

  • Opening Shifts: Typically, 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM, focusing on processing morning customer "buys," inventory replenishment, and preparing the sales floor.

  • Closing Shifts: Typically, 3:00 PM – 8:30 PM, focusing on evening customer traffic, organizing the store, and completing nightly closing register procedures.

  • Weekend Availability: Rotational or mandatory shifts on Saturdays and Sundays are highly preferred, as these are peak shopping and trading days.

  • Mid-Day Shifts: Flexible 4 to 6-hour shifts (e.g., 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM) to assist during high-volume periods
