Position Summary
We are seeking a Business Development Manager to grow Triax's construction materials testing and geotechnical work across the Denver metro area and Front Range. This is a hands-on role that combines relationship building with real proposal work — you will be in front of clients, in pre-bid meetings, and in the proposal itself.
The right person understands how contractors, developers, and public agencies actually buy testing and inspection services, and can move a relationship from a first conversation through a submitted proposal to an awarded project.
Key Responsibilities
Client Development
- Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, developers, architects, structural and civil engineers, and public agency staff across the Front Range.
- Identify and track upcoming projects through bid boards, plan rooms, agency capital plans, and direct client contact.
- Maintain an organized pipeline of opportunities, contacts, and pursuit status; report on activity and results.
- Support client retention by staying engaged with active accounts and surfacing service issues before they become problems.
Proposals and Pursuits
- Attend pre-bid and pre-proposal meetings, site walks, and scoping calls.
- Prepare CMT and special inspection proposals, including scope narratives, fee schedules, qualifications, and required forms.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and scope development for routine building and site projects; coordinate with engineering staff on complex, CDOT, and specialty pursuits.
- Track submitted proposals, follow up on outcomes, and document win/loss reasons.
- Support responses to RFQs, RFPs, and agency prequalification submittals.
Marketing and Outreach
- Represent Triax at industry events, association meetings, trade shows, and networking functions.
- Maintain and update qualification materials, project experience sheets, and staff résumés.
- Coordinate with leadership on target markets, pricing posture, and pursuit decisions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in business development, client management, estimating, or project management within construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, construction, or a closely related industry.
- Working familiarity with construction plans and specifications, and the ability to determine what testing and inspection a project will require.
- Demonstrated success developing client relationships and winning work in a services environment.
- Strong written communication — you will be writing proposals that clients read and score.
- Comfortable presenting to and meeting with contractors, developers, and agency staff.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; ability to travel throughout the Denver metro area and Front Range.
- Proficiency with standard office software and CRM or pipeline tracking tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing relationships within the Colorado construction market — general contractors, developers, municipalities, or CDOT.
- Experience preparing CMT, special inspection, or geotechnical proposals and fee estimates.
- Familiarity with IBC Chapter 17 special inspection requirements and CDOT project delivery.
- Experience with public agency procurement, prequalification, and DBE/SBE program requirements.
- Degree in construction management, civil engineering, business, marketing, or a related field.
- Active membership in relevant industry associations.
Work Environment
This position is based in our Denver metro office with regular local travel to client offices, project sites, pre-bid meetings, and industry events. Occasional evening events are expected. The role requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including visiting active construction sites.
Triax Engineering, LLC is a Colorado professional services firm providing geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, special inspections, QA/QC testing, geotechnical drilling, and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments. Our team of approximately 40 engineers, technicians, and inspectors supports public and private construction across the Denver metro area and the Front Range — roadway and bridge work, commercial and residential development, and municipal projects.
We run on a simple standard: practical engineering, reliable testing, responsive service. Field technicians are the front line of that standard, and we build the role around training, certification, and advancement rather than turnover.
