Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanic to oversee the diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance of farm and heavy construction equipment. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for managing daily service operations, mentoring technicians, ensuring equipment reliability, and delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical expertise, leadership skills, and experience working with agricultural and heavy equipment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on farm and heavy construction equipment.
  • Lead daily service department operations and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Respond to on-site customer service calls and provide accurate troubleshooting and repair solutions.
  • Coordinate workflow, prioritize service requests, and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Mentor and support junior mechanics while promoting best practices and technical development.
  • Enforce safety policies and ensure proper use of diagnostic equipment and tools.
  • Work closely with operations and parts personnel to coordinate repairs and parts availability.
  • Maintain accurate service records and communicate repair status with customers and management.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience repairing and maintaining farm or heavy construction equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and heavy equipment diagnostics.
  • Proven leadership experience in a service shop or field service environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for regional customer service and field support.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical training or apprenticeship in heavy equipment, diesel, or agricultural mechanics.
  • Experience supervising mechanics or leading service teams.
  • Familiarity with equipment scheduling, maintenance planning, and shop operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
