This opportunity is a strong fit for clinicians who want to improve students' functional movement, increase participation in school activities, and support greater independence throughout the educational day.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a school-based Physical Therapist, you will evaluate how students' physical needs affect their ability to access instruction and participate safely in campus routines. You will provide educationally relevant therapy designed around each student's individual goals.

In this role, you will:

  • Complete assessments of gross motor abilities, mobility, balance, coordination, positioning, and school-related physical functioning

  • Provide therapy services that directly support objectives included in students' Individualized Education Programs

  • Establish individualized intervention approaches using evaluation results and input from the educational team

  • Support safe movement during classroom activities, campus transitions, physical education, and other school routines

  • Identify appropriate mobility equipment, adaptive resources, positioning supports, and environmental adjustments

  • Consult with families, teachers, special education staff, administrators, and related-service providers

  • Document student performance and use progress information to revise therapy services when necessary

  • Prepare evaluations, service records, progress summaries, and other required reports within designated timelines

  • Contribute clinical expertise and recommendations during ARD and IEP meetings

  • Provide on-campus or teletherapy services when permitted by district requirements and student needs

  • Follow professional standards, district protocols, and special education compliance procedures

Qualifications for This Position

  • Active Texas Physical Therapy license in good standing

  • Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university program

  • Familiarity with educationally based therapy, IEP requirements, and special education service delivery

  • Ability to manage evaluations, student schedules, treatment responsibilities, and documentation with minimal supervision

  • Strong consultation and teamwork skills for working with families and school-based professionals

  • Effective clinical writing, verbal communication, organization, and time-management abilities

  • Previous experience serving pediatric clients or students in educational settings is preferred

Work Setting and Scheduling Options

  • Assignments located at school campuses in Austin and neighboring communities

  • Opportunities to provide services to students from early childhood through high school

  • Placement arrangements may include:

    • Full-time positions

    • Part-time schedules

    • On-site or teletherapy services based on district needs

  • Assignments are coordinated according to licensure, experience, availability, preferences, and current openings

What You Can Expect from TX-STAR

  • Compensation based on applicable professional experience

  • A range of scheduling and assignment options

  • Reliable payroll issued every two weeks

  • Access to medical, dental, and vision insurance plans

  • A collaborative culture that values the professionals serving students

  • Continued communication and support from experienced program staff

  • Referral incentive opportunities

  • Resources for professional learning and long-term career development

  • Access to an extensive network of Texas school district partners
