Volt is immediately hiring for a Power Engineer in Newport, WA.

 

As a Power Engineer you will:

 

  • Provide engineering analysis and design support across Power Delivery systems, including transmission and distribution infrastructure (substations, feeders, protection and control).
  • Perform system studies such as load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and capacity/loading analyses to support planning and operational decisions.
  • Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, and drawings for capital improvement and system upgrade projects.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Planning, and Asset Management teams to prioritize projects and support long-range system planning.
  • Support regulatory compliance efforts (e.g., NERC/WECC reliability standards, FERC licensing requirements related to generation assets, as applicable).
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering studies, and project documentation for internal stakeholders and, where applicable, regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms, contractors, and equipment vendors on design and construction support activities.
  • Participate in periodic onsite visits for field assessments, design walkdowns, commissioning support, and project meetings.

The ideal candidate will have:

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or related engineering discipline; equivalent combination of education and directly relevant utility engineering experience considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in electric utility engineering, spanning power delivery (T&D) and/or power generation environments.
  • Working knowledge of utility system studies (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination) and relevant analysis software (e.g., ETAP, CYME, PSS/E, or similar).
  • Familiarity with hydroelectric generation systems and associated equipment is highly desirable given the PUD's generation portfolio.
  • Understanding of NERC/WECC reliability standards and utility regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear technical documentation for both    technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote capacity while coordinating effectively with a distributed team and periodic onsite requirements.

 

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

 

  • Experience supporting both generation and delivery engineering functions within the same organization.
  • Familiarity with FERC licensing and compliance processes for hydroelectric facilities.
  • Experience with capital project planning, cost estimation, and lifecycle asset management.

 

Pay Rate: $55 - $75 per hour.
