Job Description – Pipe Puller
Position Summary:
Conducts day-to-day activities pertaining to accurately pulling, staging, and preparing pipe orders for shipment. Ensures customer orders are selected correctly and efficiently while maintaining inventory accuracy, product quality, and a clean and safe work environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Effectively communicates with department supervisors.
- Accurately locates and pulls pipe according to Pick Ticket specifications.
- Verifies pipe size, schedule, grade, length, quantity, and material description before staging.
- Performs visual inspections to ensure material is free from damage or defects.
- Safely operates forklifts and other material handling equipment as assigned.
- Properly stages customer orders in designated shipping areas.
- Ensures all material is protected from potential damage during handling and transportation.
- Utilizes Pick Ticket information to accurately verify and record pulled material.
- Properly identifies and labels staged orders to ensure shipment accuracy.
- Reports inventory discrepancies, damaged materials, or product shortages to supervision.
- Attend safety meetings to identify departmental issues and discuss ways to correct them.
- Identifies areas of improvement while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Duties are not limited to those described above and may be expanded as needed.
Information and Activities Critical to Process Quality:
Material Verification and Documentation:
- Visual inspection of material prior to staging.
- Verify pipe size, schedule, grade, quantity, and description match the Pick Ticket.
- Confirm bundle tags, heat numbers, and manufacturer markings when required.
- Ensure material is properly labeled and staged for shipment.
- Document shortages, substitutions, or discrepancies in accordance with company procedures.
Material Handling:
- Follow established procedures to safely move and stage pipe products.
- Ensure material is properly supported to prevent bending, scratching, or other damage.
- Maintain separation of customer orders to eliminate shipping errors.
Qualifications:
- 1+ years of warehouse experience; PVF industry experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to drive forklifts and obtain required certifications.
- Must have average reading, writing, and mathematical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret Pick Tickets, product labels, and warehouse documentation.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. without assistance and heavier materials using approved lifting equipment.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, and operate a variety of material handling equipment throughout the workday.
- Takes initiative and can work independently.
- Requires a high level of attention to detail and order accuracy.
- Able to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- Demonstrates a commitment to workplace safety and teamwork.
