Job Description – Order Puller
Position Summary:
Conducts day-to-day activities related to accurately pulling, staging, and preparing customer orders for shipment within the warehouse. Ensures all products are selected according to customer specifications while maintaining productivity, inventory accuracy, and a clean and safe work environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Effectively communicates with department supervisors and team members regarding order status and inventory concerns.
- Accurately locates, identifies, and pulls pipe, valves, fittings, and related materials according to Pick Tickets.
- Verifies product descriptions, sizes, schedules, grades, quantities, and heat numbers prior to staging. Use of a RF scanner to virtually pick material.
- Ensures material is handled safely to prevent damage during pulling, staging, and transportation.
- Stages completed orders in designated shipping locations for inspection and loading.
- Operates forklifts, stand up order pickers, turrets, reach trucks and other material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Reports inventory discrepancies, damaged materials, or quality concerns to supervision.
- Maintains an organized work area by following established housekeeping standards.
- Participates in safety meetings and follows all company safety policies and procedures.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements that enhance productivity, accuracy, and workplace safety.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support warehouse operations.
Information and Activities Critical to Process Quality:
Order Verification and Documentation
- Visual inspection of all materials prior to staging.
- Verify product size, schedule, grade, description, and quantity against the Pick Ticket.
- Confirm bundle tags, heat numbers, and manufacturer markings when required.
- Ensure all pulled material is free from visible damage before shipment.
- Record shortages, substitutions, or discrepancies according to company procedures.
Material Handling
- Properly secure and stage materials to prevent damage.
- Follow established handling procedures for pipe, valves, fittings, and specialty products.
- Ensure customer orders remain segregated to prevent shipping errors.
