What You'll Do
This is not a traditional driving position. As a Rail Service Technician, you will follow ensure locomotives compliance by performing routine inspections and servicing tasks that keep trains operating safely and efficiently. On the job training will be provided for qualified individuals.
Responsibilities
include:
- Perform daily locomotive inspections required by the Federal Railroad Association.
- Load traction sand, potable water, and lube oil
- Verify and replenish locomotive flevels as needed
- Operate truck-mounted service equipment
- Stock locomotives with bottled water and crew supply packs
- Maintain clean locomotive cabs and restrooms by removing trash and wiping down interior surfaces
- Evacuate and properly dispose of locomotive toilet waste using approved servicing equipment and designated disposal procedures
- Follow all company, railroad, DOT, and safety procedures
Qualifications
- Valid Class B CDL with Air Brake Endorsement required (Class A CDL also accepted)
- Valid DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Med Card)
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
- Ability to pass company, customer, railroad, and government background checks
- Moderate computer skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong commitment to safety and reliability
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to climb locomotive steps and lift materials up to 50 pounds as part of daily job duties
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and a rotating schedule
