Job Description
Position Title: PT Staff Accountant
Department: Finance Department
Reports To: Director of Finance
Salary Range: PT role 12 hours per week at $ 28 -$32 an hour plus Total Rewards Package
Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant position is a great opportunity to utilize your accounting skills working for a first-class non-profit organization. This position reports directly to the Director of Finance on carrying out the mission of the UPM Finance and Accounting department. Responsibilities will include coordinating and executing payroll processing in partnership with HR, preparing journal entries, completing monthly bank reconciliations, and generating reports and statements.
Essential Job Functions:
Payroll:
· Processing and managing the company’s payroll, ensuring all employees are paid accurately and on time
· Coordinating the tracking of wages, benefits, tax deductions, etc. and providing statements of earnings and deductions as needed
· Working in close partnership with the HR department to verify employment details
· Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
· Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests
· Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures
· Coordinating with payroll provider to ensure compliance with current tax regulations
· Performing account balance, deduction audits, payroll and other reconciliations
· Processing payment of employee benefits
· Keeping informed about changes in wage, tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process
· Integrating payroll data into accounting application
General Accounting/Finance Department related responsibilities include:
· Preparing monthly general journal entries
· Completing monthly bank account reconciliations
· Generating accounting/finance reports and statements
Qualifications:
· Proven experience as a staff accountant, payroll accountant or similar role
· Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
· Knowledge of legislation and regulations of the field
· Proficient in MS Office and good knowledge of relevant software and databases
· Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality
· Outstanding organizational ability with great attention to detail
· Excellent communication skills
Essential Job Requirements:
EDUCATION
BS/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two years’ proven experience as a staff accountant, payroll accountant or similar role
REQUIRED SKILLS
Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices; experience with banking and reconciliations; proficient in MS Office suite especially Excel; Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality; Attention to Detail
PREFERRED SKILLS
Non-profit accounting experience, familiarity with Intacct software, and/or Primepoint payroll systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sitting for Extended Periods: Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk while performing administrative tasks or using a computer.
Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift or carry light office supplies, boxes, or event materials (typically up to 10 lbs.)
