Position Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated Substance Use Specialist to provide direct support, counseling, and case management to young adults (ages 16–26) experiencing substance use challenges. The ideal candidate will have an MSW (Master of Social Work) or LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) and experience working in a trauma-informed, youth-centered environment. A CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor) or CASAC-T is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments to evaluate substance use, mental health, and psychosocial needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment and recovery plans in collaboration with clients and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Provide individual and group counseling using evidence-based practices (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, CBT, harm reduction).
  • Deliver psychoeducation and relapse prevention strategies tailored to young adults.
  • Engage clients in outreach and engagement efforts, including field-based services and community support.
  • Coordinate care with families, schools, health providers, housing programs, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with agency, Medicaid, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in clinical team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training and development.
  • Support a strengths-based, youth-centered, and recovery-oriented approach to care.

Qualifications:

  • MSW (Master of Social Work) or LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) required.
  • Must be eligible for licensure in New York State (LMSW, LCSW, or LMHC).
  • CASAC or CASAC-T strongly preferred.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience working with young adults and/or individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Experience with harm reduction, co-occurring disorders, and trauma-informed care is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and clinical documentation standards.
