Urban Pathways K‐5 College Charter School (UPK5) is seeking highly qualified, Pennsylvania‐certified Elementary School Teachers (Grades K–5) across all subject areas who are committed to fostering academic excellence, character development, and a culturally responsive learning environment.

 

The ideal candidate believes that all scholars can achieve rigorous academic success, values strong partnerships with families, and thrives in a structured, collaborative, fast‐paced school setting. Teachers at UPK5 are responsible for delivering standards‐aligned instruction, monitoring student progress, and actively contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture.

 

  • Implement state learning standards and curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations.
  • Manage a classroom with approximately 25-30 students where groups of 12 or fewer rotate between teachers or work independently.
  • Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and state and school district curriculum guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate with children of varying backgrounds.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback.
  • Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual student’s progress and learning needs, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update gradebook weekly.
  • Supervises the behavior of all students in the classroom, throughout school grounds, and on educational trips.
  • Communicate students’ progress with student and family on a weekly basis.
  • Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work related tasks.
  • Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campus- wide initiatives while developing students’ character and sense of community in the classroom.
  • Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters an inclusive, productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student.

  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding and respect for the communities in which they identify.
  • Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs.
  • Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, and school wide meetings and functions.
  • Engage in summer and year-long district, school and personal learning and development.
  • Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week.
  • Additional responsibilities may include: after-school tutoring or Saturday school and are based on the needs of our scholars.
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Active Pennsylvania Teaching Certification (Elementary K‐6 or PK‐4).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Demonstrated understanding of elementary instructional best practices.
  • Commitment to teaching diverse student populations in an urban charter environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and families of varied backgrounds.
  • Strong classroom management, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and educational platforms.
  • Ability to meet all employment requirements, including:
    • PA Criminal Background Check (Act 34)
    • PA Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
    • FBI Fingerprinting
    • Act 168 employment history review
    • Physical examination and TB clearance

 

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

Thorough understanding of best practices of education.

Desire to teach elementary school-aged children and ability to adapt to their developmental status.

Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
