Oncology Research Nurse

Join the premier cancer treatment center on the East Coast – Virginia Cancer Institute is actively searching for an experienced and dedicated Oncology Research Nurse to join our growing organization. VCI is a well respected medical practice in the Richmond, Virginia market and has a need for an Oncology Research Nurse to join our multiple-location Practice.

The Oncology Research Nurse will manage research protocols, including patient care, data management and interaction with study sponsors; will assist in the advancement of new treatments for cancer patients, making a difference for patients with advanced malignancies and those living with cancer.

The Oncology Research Nurse will screen, evaluate and report research opportunities; maintain extensive records and documentation as required by practice, study, and federal requirements; ensure adherence with all legal guidelines related to clinical research; examine patient records to extract relevant data in order to make appropriate decisions regarding trial enrollment; accurately complete all enrollment applications for patients qualifying for participation in trials; recognize changes in the physical/mental condition of study participants and take appropriate action by notifying the physician; coordinate with laboratory and office staff to ensure that patients on trials are scheduled for all required laboratory tests, treatments, or other necessary appointments.

The Oncology Research Nurse should have a Nursing degree with a valid Virginia Nursing License; two years of clinical trial experience in oncology preferred; must be able to work independently; exhibit strong time management and task prioritization skills; handle stressful and/or emergency situations calmly; demonstrate knowledge of federal guidelines on clinical trials and experience with regulatory policies and issues related to clinical research; OCN certification desired; familiarity with Microsoft Windows and/or computer-based clinical records systems and other applicable Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
