TeamGov is seeking an experienced Forklift Mechanic to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair forklifts and related material-handling equipment supporting operations at a secure federal facility in Washington, DC. The mechanic will help maximize equipment safety, reliability, and availability through preventive maintenance, skilled troubleshooting, timely repairs, and accurate documentation.

SECURITY REQUIREMENT  The selected candidate must be able to successfully complete and maintain all customer-required pre-employment screening and a stringent federal background investigation. Employment is contingent upon approval for access to the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•     Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on electric and internal-combustion forklifts, pallet jacks, stackers, and related material-handling equipment.

•     Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic faults using service manuals, schematics, meters, gauges, scan tools, and approved test equipment.

•     Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, mast assemblies, lift chains, hydraulics, batteries, chargers, controls, and safety devices.

•     Complete operational safety checks; remove unsafe equipment from service and return it only after repairs are functionally tested and verified.

•     Maintain accurate work orders, preventive-maintenance records, inspection reports, parts usage, labor entries, and equipment histories.

•     Coordinate with site management and equipment operators to prioritize repairs, communicate status, and respond to urgent breakdowns.

•     Maintain tools, parts, service areas, and housekeeping standards appropriate for a secure, mission-critical federal environment.

•     Follow manufacturer specifications, site safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, environmental requirements, and applicable powered-industrial-truck standards.

Required Qualifications

•     High school diploma or GED and at least three years of hands-on forklift, industrial-equipment, or heavy-equipment repair experience.

•     Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, battery, charging, braking, steering, and lift systems.

•     Ability to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, service manuals, parts catalogs, and manufacturer specifications.

•     Proficiency with diagnostic equipment, measuring devices, hand tools, power tools, and industrial shop equipment.

•     Clear written and verbal communication skills; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record when driving is required.

•     Ability to satisfy all federal customer screening, identification, badging, suitability, and ongoing facility-access requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

•     Forklift, industrial-equipment, heavy-equipment, automotive, diesel, or electrical certification or manufacturer training.

•     Experience servicing equipment from multiple manufacturers and working with electric and internal-combustion lift trucks.

•     Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and working in a federal, industrial, or other controlled-access facility.

Physical and Work Requirements

•     Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work in and around industrial equipment.

•     Lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and handle heavier components with approved lifting assistance.

•     Work safely around moving equipment, batteries, fuels, hydraulics, noise, fumes, and changing temperatures while wearing required PPE.

•     Maintain required operator authorization for functional testing and work occasional overtime or emergency assignments when needed.
