Job Summary

The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of diesel-powered equipment, including heavy-duty trucks, construction machinery, and fleet vehicles. This role is critical to ensuring our equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably in support of daily operations.

 

The successful candidate will work from our Clifton, NJ maintenance facility and collaborate closely with an experienced maintenance team consisting of one Lead Mechanic and two established Mechanics. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside skilled professionals in a well-equipped shop environment, contributing to the maintenance and performance of a large and diverse fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, including trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and other heavy machinery.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and preventative service inspections.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, fuel, hydraulic, and mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify faults and verify repairs.
  • Maintain accurate service records and track completed repairs using internal systems.
  • Order necessary parts and maintain inventory levels for common repairs.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and operators regarding equipment status, repair needs, and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Assist with seasonal maintenance, inspections, and equipment readiness.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or diesel technician certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working on diesel engines or heavy equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and emissions systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various weather and shop conditions.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with construction, heavy equipment, or fleet maintenance.
  • Knowledge of DOT inspection standards and regulations.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with computerized diagnostic tools and fleet management systems.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
