Summary

EMH&T is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of our civil engineering firm. This role is heavily focused on cash-basis project accounting, working closely with Project Managers and the Director of Accounting to ensure timely client billing, cash collections, project reporting, and accurate financial records.

The ideal candidate will understand the unique accounting needs of professional services and engineering consulting firms, including project lifecycle accounting, accounts receivable management, cash flow monitoring, and financial reporting. This position serves as a key liaison between accounting and project management teams to help maintain the financial health of projects and the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Project Accounting & Accounts Receivable

  • Partner with Project Managers and the Director of Accounting to manage project billing, accounts receivable, and client collection activities.
  • Monitor project invoicing, cash receipts, and outstanding balances to ensure timely collection of revenues.
  • Track and report A/R aging, collection efforts, and project-related cash flow metrics.
  • Assist Project Managers in reviewing project financial performance, billing status, and revenue realization.

Client & Contract Administration

  • Facilitate onboarding of new clients by providing company information, banking details, references, insurance certificates, and other required documentation.
  • Review client credit reports and assist in establishing appropriate billing and collection procedures.
  • Support contract administration and maintain project-related financial records.

Cash Management & Financial Reporting

  • Manage daily cash receipts and accurately record cash transactions in accordance with cash-basis accounting practices.
  • Assist with monthly bank reconciliations and cash account balancing.
  • Prepare recurring financial reports and assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Monitor cash flow activity and support forecasting efforts.

Fixed Assets & Fleet Administration

  • Maintain the company's fixed asset inventory and ensure fixed asset software is current and accurate.
  • Generate depreciation, inventory, and asset management reports as needed.
  • Coordinate licensing, titling, registration, and recordkeeping for company vehicles and fleet assets.

General Accounting & Administrative Support

  • Review purchases for use tax compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and distribute accounting and operational reports.
  • Support accounting department initiatives and special projects.
  • Assist with general office operations and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounts receivable, collections, cash management, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers and operational teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Engineering, architecture, consulting, or project-based services environment.
  • Experience with cash-basis accounting and project accounting strongly preferred.
  • Project billing, project profitability reporting, and work-in-process (WIP) analysis.
  • Deltek, BST, Ajera, Vision, Vantagepoint, or similar project accounting software.
