Make a meaningful impact by supporting the academic and language development of young learners who are deaf or hard of hearing in a dedicated, full-time contract role. This opportunity focuses on 1st and 2nd graders, providing specialized instruction in reading, writing, math, and core content areas. Collaboration with a strong team of professionals ensures you’ll have robust support as you help students thrive.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification, or eligibility to obtain certification/permit prior to start date
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language and/or listening and spoken language methodology, based on student needs
- Familiarity with language acquisition and literacy development for children who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Prior work in self-contained DHH classrooms and experience with early elementary (K–2) literacy instruction preferred
- Knowledge of RDSPD program structures and compliance requirements strongly desired
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills considered a plus
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver adapted grade-level instruction as specified by TEKS and students’ IEPs, utilizing the appropriate communication modality
- Collaborate regularly with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and other specialists
- Monitor, document, and report on student progress toward IEP goals each grading period
- Administer and interpret assessments related to language, literacy, and academics
- Communicate consistently with families about progress and classroom expectations
- Maintain a language-accessible, supportive classroom using appropriate technology (FM/sound field systems)
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and stay current on special education requirements
- Engage in ongoing professional development and staff collaboration
