Job Description

Position Summary

A leading energy infrastructure organization is seeking an Instructional Design and LMS Specialist to support an enterprise learning initiative focused on LMS stabilization, compliance-training accuracy and the development of company-wide training standards. This contractor will initially lead the audit, redesign, testing and validation of LMS enrollment processes affected by changes to the organization’s job architecture. Following system stabilization, the specialist will develop training standards, LMS governance practices, quality-review processes and measurement guidelines. This role requires a combination of hands-on LMS administration, instructional-design expertise, HRIS integration knowledge and strong technical documentation skills.

Key Responsibilities

LMS Administration and Stabilization

  • Audit and document existing automated enrollment rules within Absorb LMS.
  • Identify enrollment rules affected by changes to employee job titles and job codes.
  • Review mandatory courses and map them to the appropriate enrollment methods.
  • Identify compliance risks, incorrect assignments and gaps in required training.
  • Audit enrollment emails, reminders and automated learner communications.
  • Coordinate with LMS support and internal stakeholders to confirm integration behavior between Oracle HCM and Absorb LMS.
  • Design an updated enrollment-rule structure aligned with the organization’s new job architecture.
  • Configure and test enrollment rules within the LMS sandbox environment.
  • Implement approved production changes to enrollment rules and communications.
  • Validate enrollment activity following HRIS data synchronization.
  • Conduct a post-implementation audit of mandatory training assignments.
  • Resolve enrollment and course-assignment discrepancies.
  • Develop an updated LMS administrator runbook and supporting documentation.
  • Provide knowledge-transfer sessions to internal Talent Development team members.

Instructional Design and Training Standards

  • Conduct stakeholder interviews to evaluate existing training practices and identify gaps.
  • Audit the training catalog for quality, consistency, accessibility and standards alignment.
  • Develop enterprise standards covering course design, learner experience, accessibility and brand consistency.
  • Establish standards for mandatory and compliance-related training.
  • Develop LMS governance guidelines for course naming, enrollment rules, user groups, communications, content archiving and administrative decision-making.
  • Create evaluation standards and scorecards for external training vendors and content providers.
  • Develop training-quality checklists, peer-review procedures and content-refresh expectations.
  • Establish measurement and reporting standards, including KPIs, completion reporting, compliance calendars and LMS dashboards.
  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback through structured review cycles.
  • Train internal team members on the new standards, procedures and governance model.
  • Deliver a complete and organized training-standards library at project completion.

Required Qualifications

  • At least three years of hands-on LMS administration experience within an enterprise environment.
  • Experience managing automated enrollment rules, user groups, course assignments, learner communications and LMS reporting.
  • Experience developing training standards, governance frameworks, LMS procedures or learning-operations documentation.
  • Understanding of HRIS-to-LMS integrations and how employee data affects enrollment logic.
  • Experience supporting mandatory, compliance-driven, regulated or safety-sensitive training.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional-design principles, including ADDIE, SAM, adult learning and assessment design.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects independently.
  • Excellent technical writing and stakeholder-communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and quality-assurance capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Absorb LMS.
  • Experience with Oracle HCM or ADP integrations.
  • Experience supporting training within energy, utilities, oil and gas, industrial, manufacturing or another regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with operator qualification, safety-training frameworks, regulatory compliance or FERC-related training.
  • Experience building learning-governance processes or enterprise training standards from the ground up.
  • Experience creating LMS administrator runbooks and conducting formal knowledge transfer.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on LMS administrator who can troubleshoot technical enrollment issues while also developing clear, scalable training standards. This person should be comfortable working independently, communicating with technical and nontechnical stakeholders and operating within a compliance-focused environment.

This is an on-site contract position in Denver, Colorado. Candidates must be able to work from the Lakewood office for the duration of the 25-week assignment.
