Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 16-bed Medical Surgical Cardiac ICU serving a diverse patient population ranging from young adults to geriatrics, with diagnoses including sepsis, STEMI, stroke, neurosurgery, renal failure, respiratory failure, COPD, cancer, and DKA
• Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2, with occasional 1:1 assignments for TPA administration, balloon pump management, and post-craniotomy recovery
• Titrate drips including sedation, paralytics, pressors, antihypertensives, heparin, and insulin
• Read and interpret telemetry/cardiac monitor strips independently
• Operate and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation; work with equipment including Gaymar Hypothermia, Arrow Balloon Pump, Camino Neuro Monitoring, CRRT, Impella, EVDs, and lumbar drains
• Participate in bedside shift report, intentional hourly rounding, and an eICU remote monitoring system; float primarily to PCU and other hospital areas as needed based on abilities

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Candidates currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Health, are not eligible
• Valid driver's license required at time of submittal (used to verify the 50-mile radius requirement)
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; candidates must comply with facility fingernail policy
• Candidates must pass a unit-specific open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
• All requested time off (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract) must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior ICU experience with exposure to complex, critically ill patients
• Experience with advanced monitoring and support equipment such as CRRT, Impella, EVDs, or balloon pumps
• Ability to critically think through complex clinical situations and proactively seek out resources
• Experience providing culturally sensitive care to diverse patient populations, including non-English-speaking patients
