Senior Mechanical Estimator

Position Overview

The Senior Mechanical Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating and preconstruction process for commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects. This role develops accurate and competitive estimates, manages bid strategy, coordinates vendor pricing, and collaborates closely with operations and engineering teams to support successful project execution.

Projects may include commercial office buildings, healthcare facilities, industrial plants, manufacturing facilities, educational campuses, and mission critical environments. The ideal candidate has extensive experience estimating commercial HVAC and mechanical systems and can independently manage complex bids from concept through final proposal.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating process for commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission.
• Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents to define scope and identify project risks.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC systems, piping, ductwork, equipment, and mechanical components.
• Develop complete estimate packages including labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment pricing.
• Solicit, review, and level vendor and subcontractor proposals to ensure complete and accurate scope coverage.
• Lead pre-bid meetings, site walks, and internal estimating reviews.
• Identify constructability concerns, scope gaps, and value engineering opportunities.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, operations teams, and field leadership during project turnover and planning.
• Maintain historical pricing databases, estimating standards, and bid tracking systems.
• Mentor Junior Estimators and support development of estimating best practices.
• Support business development efforts by maintaining relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and clients.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of experience estimating commercial mechanical or HVAC construction projects.
• Strong expertise in commercial HVAC systems, piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment.
• Experience working for a mechanical contractor or MEP contractor.
• Proven ability to manage large and complex estimates independently.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Strong understanding of labor productivity, material pricing, and construction sequencing.
• Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in fast-paced environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience estimating projects within healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, education, or mission critical sectors.
• Familiarity with design-build projects and preconstruction collaboration.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as Bluebeam, FastPIPE, QuoteSoft, Trimble, or similar platforms.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
