We’re looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to join our team. This entry-level position supports the Metallurgical Lab Specialist in performing daily laboratory operations involving steel and other metallic materials. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on work, follows safety procedures, and is eager to learn laboratory testing techniques in a manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Do
- Assist with daily metallurgical laboratory operations.
- Operate oxy-fuel cutting torches to prepare steel samples.
- Record and accurately transcribe sample information.
- Label and track samples throughout the testing process.
- Cut, prepare, and finish samples using laboratory equipment, including stationary sanders.
- Prepare sample surfaces for metallurgical analysis.
- Operate, maintain, and clean laboratory equipment.
- Learn to operate laboratory testing instruments, including a spectrometer.
- Follow all laboratory safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify and report safety hazards to supervisors.
- Participate in monthly safety and team meetings.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient work area.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to safely operate or learn to operate a cutting torch.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to accurately read and record measurements.
- Familiarity with tape measures and micrometers.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs
- Stand, bend, and move for extended periods
- Perform hands-on mechanical work
- Ability to wear required PPE at all times
Preferred
- · Experience in a manufacturing, steel, or metals environment.
- · Previous laboratory experience (2+ years preferred).
- · Experience using laboratory testing equipment or spectrometers.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies
- Properly select, wear, and maintain PPE daily
- Report hazards immediately to supervision
- Participate in monthly safety/shop meetings
Additional Requirements
- Drug testing required (pre-employment, random, post-accident, and for-cause)
