Job Title: CarpenterJob Description

This role focuses on performing a wide range of carpentry functions on new construction projects, including commercial buildings and pre-engineered metal structures. You will work with both metal stud and wood (stick) framing, contributing to projects from rough framing through to detailed finish work. The position requires a strong blend of hands-on carpentry skills, blueprint reading, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality, durable structures.

Responsibilities
  • Perform rough framing for new commercial and pre-engineered metal building projects using both metal studs and wood framing.
  • Install doors and windows in accordance with specifications and building plans.
  • Complete finish trim work, including casing, baseboards, and detailed interior trim.
  • Perform commercial casework and cabinetry installation with precise measurements and quality craftsmanship.
  • Install bath accessories and related fixtures to meet project standards and customer expectations.
  • Install sheet metal siding and related exterior finishes on commercial and metal building projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to plan and execute framing and finish tasks accurately.
  • Use basic hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices to perform framing, finish carpentry, and installations safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with other carpenters and trades on-site to coordinate tasks and maintain project timelines.
  • Work independently when required, managing assigned tasks from start to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with additional carpentry and construction duties as needed to support new build projects, including interior and exterior work.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and safe throughout each project.
  • Adapt to working on a variety of project types, including offices, churches, retail spaces, restaurants, pharmacies, dealerships, and metal buildings.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of carpentry experience.
  • Experience with either commercial or residential new builds or rehabilitation projects.
  • Strong understanding of rough framing and framing layout for new construction.
  • Proficient finish carpentry skills, including trim work and detailed interior finishes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Ability to accurately use a tape measure and other measuring tools.
  • Ownership of basic hand tools required for framing and finish carpentry.
  • Hands-on experience with framing, rough carpentry, and finish carpentry.
  • Experience with door installation, including interior and exterior doors.
  • Experience with window installation and related trim work.
  • Ability to work with wood framing, woodwork, and general woodworking tasks.
  • Experience with interior carpentry and installation work in new construction.
  • Capability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team on active construction sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to work completely independently on assigned tasks and sections of a project.
  • Previous foreman or lead carpenter experience.
  • Commercial construction experience, particularly on new build projects.
  • Experience with masonry work.
  • Experience with concrete work.
  • Experience with painting on construction or remodeling projects.
  • Background in cabinetry or cabinet making.
  • Experience installing sheet metal and siding on commercial or metal buildings.
  • Familiarity with pre-engineered metal building construction.
  • Comfort working on a variety of project types, such as offices, churches, retail spaces, restaurants, pharmacies, dealerships, and metal structures.

Work Environment

The role is based in the Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan area, with projects located in Kalamazoo, Richland, and surrounding communities. Work primarily involves new commercial builds, including offices, churches, retail stores, restaurants, pharmacies, dealerships, and pre-engineered metal buildings. You will spend most of your time on active construction sites and at multiple warehouse locations, working around standard construction equipment, tools, and materials. The environment includes exposure to outdoor conditions, varying weather, and typical jobsite noise and activity. The culture emphasizes high character and strong work ethic, and team members are expected to work with resilience and professionalism, even when interacting with more seasoned tradespeople who may be direct in their communication. Typical hours run from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., totaling around 40 hours per week, with the potential for overtime depending on project needs. Dress expectations align with a commercial construction setting, requiring practical, safety-oriented attire suitable for outdoor and indoor jobsite work.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $33.00/hr.
