Phlebotomist

This phlebotomist role focuses on performing safe and accurate blood draws, collecting and labeling specimens, recording maintenance and decontamination data, and updating patient information. You will work with patients of all ages, including pediatric patients, and play an important role in supporting high-quality healthcare in the community.

• Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles while following established procedures.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and test requirements.
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures to patients.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders.
• Verify that all tests and labels are 100% accurate before processing or storage.
• Store specimen samples at the required temperatures and place them in appropriate collection containers.
• Update and maintain accurate patient information and related documentation.
• Record maintenance data and decontamination activities in accordance with laboratory standards.
• Interpret and follow physicians’ orders related to specimen collection and processing.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety protocols.
• Provide courteous, professional customer service to patients and healthcare staff.
• Support pediatric and adult patients by creating a calm, reassuring environment during specimen collection.

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of Nebraska.
• At least 2 years of experience working with pediatric patients.
• Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Experience in specimen collection, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing according to test orders.
• Ability to accurately update and maintain patient information and laboratory records.
• Strong understanding of physicians’ orders related to laboratory testing and specimen handling.
• Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations and ability to comply with all safety and regulatory requirements.
• Customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.

• Experience working in a healthcare or medical laboratory environment.
• Ability to work effectively with patients across all demographics and age groups.
• Interest in professional growth, with an opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining 100% accuracy in specimen labeling and handling.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and compassionate when working with children and families.

This role follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break. You will work in a clinical or laboratory setting that serves patients of all ages, including pediatric patients, and supports a diverse community. The environment involves regular use of phlebotomy equipment, laboratory instruments, and specimen storage systems, including centrifuges and temperature-controlled storage. Team members wear scrubs as standard work attire, and lab coats are provided. The workplace emphasizes safety and regulatory compliance, including adherence to OSHA and DEP guidelines, while fostering a supportive environment where you can make a meaningful impact in your community and help provide essential care.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.

The pay range for this position is $24.60 - $24.60/hr.
