Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Medical Surgical Oncology position requiring an active MI RN license and 2 years of oncology nursing experience.

  • Inpatient pediatric oncology unit within a children's teaching hospital setting
  • \n
  • Cares for patients with leukemia/blood dyscrasias, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma
  • \n
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • \n
  • Performs cell and gene therapy administration, blood product administration, chemotherapy and conditioning treatment administration, supportive care, and triage
  • \n
  • Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • \n
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • \n
  • On-call responsibilities required
  • \n
Requirements\n
    \n
  • Active MI RN license required in-hand at time of consideration (compact license not accepted)
  • \n
  • BLS certification required
  • \n
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) and OCN certification preferred
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • \n
  • Bone Marrow Transplant experience preferred (administration of cells not required)
  • \n
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • \n
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • \n
  • Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, central line care, and PICC line care
  • \n
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration, biotherapy, and management of oncologic emergencies such as anaphylaxis, extravasation, and sepsis
  • \n
  • Knowledge of neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols
  • \n
  • Two professional references required from a manager or supervisor (Charge RNs not accepted)
  • \n

  • Administer chemotherapy, conditioning treatments, blood products, and cell/gene therapies
  • \n
  • Provide supportive care and symptom management for side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and altered mental status
  • \n
  • Coordinate care and provide patient/family education and psychosocial support
  • \n
  • Perform telephone triage as needed
  • \n
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this position
  • \n
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • \n
  • No time off allowed during the first week of the contract; all time off requests must be submitted at time of consideration
  • \n
  • Candidates who previously worked for the health system within the last 12 months are not eligible
  • \n
  • Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a one-year separation
  • \n
  • Traveler pairs are not accepted for this position
  • \n
  • Required certifications must be obtained prior to the start date
