Job Title: Material Handler
Job Description
The Material Handler supports laser cutting operations by unloading finished product from the machine, managing inventory, and moving materials throughout the plant. This role combines hands-on material handling with sit-down forklift operation and requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds while working safely in a busy manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist the laser operator by unloading materials and finished product from the laser machine in a safe and efficient manner.
- Take accurate inventory of product, including counting, documenting, and tracking materials according to work orders and inventory procedures.
- Move inventory and materials throughout the plant using a sit-down forklift and manual material handling methods as needed.
- Handle sheet metal and other materials carefully to prevent damage and ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Follow work orders and production schedules to ensure the correct materials are delivered to the appropriate workstations.
- Perform general labor tasks related to material handling and shop support as directed by supervisors.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all safety guidelines and best practices.
- Participate in cross-training to learn different areas of the shop and support various operations as needed.
- Communicate effectively with laser operators, production staff, and inventory personnel to coordinate material flow.
- Support overtime and additional hours when needed to meet production demands.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience operating a sit-down forklift in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Work order and inventory experience, including tracking materials and documenting product movement.
- Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing material handling experience.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly during the shift.
- Experience with general labor tasks in a production or warehouse setting.
- Strong attention to detail when counting and recording inventory.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions related to work orders and material movement.
- Commitment to working safely around machinery, forklifts, and other equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with sheet metal in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Experience in a job shop environment with varied, custom, or short-run production.
- Willingness to be cross-trained in multiple areas of the shop.
- Interest in learning laser operations and broader shop processes.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a busy production setting.

Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing plant that is well lit but not air conditioned. You work on 2nd shift from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with optional overtime available on additional days as needed. The environment involves active material handling, sit-down forklift operation, and general labor tasks around laser cutting equipment and sheet metal. You should be comfortable working in an industrial setting, handling up to 50-pound loads, and moving between different areas of the shop as part of cross-training and daily responsibilities.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
