Aerotek is hiring for a MIG Welder in Sussex County, DE.

Job Description

The MIG Welder fabricates, fits, and welds structural steel and metal components used in residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects. In this role, you read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications to produce high-quality welded assemblies that meet strict company and industry standards. You work closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and fabricated components to meet project and quality requirements.
• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, work orders, welding symbols, and fabrication specifications to plan and execute work accurately.
• Fabricate, fit, and assemble steel components according to project specifications, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up.
• Measure, mark, cut, and prepare materials using fabrication equipment and hand tools to achieve required dimensions and tolerances.
• Inspect welds for quality, strength, and dimensional accuracy, and make adjustments or repairs as needed to meet standards.
• Operate fabrication equipment such as saws, grinders, drill presses, ironworkers, and other shop machinery safely and efficiently.
• Maintain compliance with all company safety policies and OSHA regulations while performing welding and fabrication tasks.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of materials, welding wire, gas, and other welding consumables.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of welding machines, fabrication tools, and related equipment to keep them in good working order.
• Collaborate with supervisors, project managers, and team members to meet production goals, deadlines, and quality expectations.
• Identify and report quality issues, safety concerns, or production problems to management promptly.
• Assist with loading, unloading, and moving fabricated materials and components within the shop as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper housekeeping and tool storage.
• Work overtime when required to meet project schedules and production demands.

Essential Skills

• 6 months to 1 year of MIG welding experience in a steel fabrication environment preferred.
• Hands-on experience working with structural steel, plate, tube, and miscellaneous metal fabrication.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols.
• Strong knowledge of MIG welding techniques, weld quality standards, and metal fabrication practices.
• Ability to accurately use tape measures, squares, levels, and other measuring instruments.
• Familiarity with common shop equipment, fabrication tools, and material handling equipment.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and safe work practices in a fabrication and welding environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise work.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team.
• Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime when required to meet project schedules.
• Effective problem-solving skills and clear communication with supervisors and team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Forklift experience in a shop or fabrication environment preferred.
• Overhead crane experience preferred.
• AWS welding certifications are a plus but not required.
• Experience with TIG welding and fitting steel is beneficial.
• Comfort operating a variety of fabrication machinery such as saws, grinders, drill presses, and ironworkers.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seaford, DE.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
