\n Job Overview

\n We are seeking a skilled Surgical Assistant / Surgical First Assist to join a busy Operating Room team on a 12-week contract. The ideal candidate will have strong first assist experience and be proficient in orthopedic, robotic, and minimally invasive surgical procedures. This role requires excellent clinical judgment, teamwork, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced surgical environment.

\n Key Responsibilities
\n Serve as the First Assist during a variety of surgical procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
\n Prepare the operating room by verifying equipment, instruments, and sterile supplies before surgery.
\n Provide intraoperative assistance, including tissue handling, exposure, hemostasis, wound closure, and application of dressings.
\n Scrub and assist with orthopedic, robotic, and minimally invasive (scopic) procedures.
\n Maintain a sterile surgical field while adhering to infection prevention and patient safety standards.
\n Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and surgical technologists throughout procedures.
\n Perform accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts in accordance with established protocols.
\n Document surgical procedures and patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
\n Respond effectively to emergency situations while maintaining composure in a high-acuity environment.
\n Participate in on-call coverage and provide support for urgent and emergent surgical cases.
\n Required Qualifications
\n Graduate of an accredited Surgical Assistant or Surgical First Assist program.
\n Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
\n Minimum of two years of Surgical First Assist experience in an Operating Room setting.
\n Experience with Orthopedic, Robotic, and Minimally Invasive (Scopic) surgical procedures.
\n Proficiency using EPIC electronic medical record system.
\n Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, anatomy, and patient safety practices.
\n Preferred Qualifications
\n Certification as a Surgical First Assistant (CSFA, CSA, or equivalent).
\n Experience in a high-volume acute care hospital operating room.
\n Excellent communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
\n Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary surgical team.
