Job Description
We are hiring for a Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory) performs routine and complex laboratory testing on blood, tissue, and body fluid specimens to assist physicians in diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease. This position operates sophisticated laboratory instrumentation, ensures quality control compliance, and maintains accurate laboratory documentation while adhering to CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and hospital policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform moderate- and high-complexity laboratory testing in one or more laboratory disciplines, including:
- Hematology
- Clinical Chemistry
- Microbiology
- Immunology/Serology
- Blood Bank/Transfusion Services
- Urinalysis
- Molecular Diagnostics (as applicable)
- Analyze patient specimens using automated and manual laboratory methods.
- Review, verify, and report laboratory results promptly and accurately.
- Perform quality control (QC), calibration, and preventative maintenance on laboratory analyzers.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation issues and coordinate repairs when necessary.
- Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA, and laboratory safety standards.
- Prepare specimens for testing and ensure proper specimen handling and storage.
- Recognize abnormal or critical values and communicate results according to established protocols.
- Document laboratory activities accurately within the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Assist with proficiency testing and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain adequate laboratory supplies and inventory.
- Participate in continuing education and competency assessments.
- Train and mentor laboratory assistants, students, and new employees as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related biological science from an accredited institution.
Certifications
- ASCP (MLS or MT), AMT (MT), or equivalent national certification preferred or required based on employer.
- Alabama does not currently require state licensure for Medical Technologists.
Experience
- New graduates from accredited MLS programs welcome.
- 1–3 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Experience in acute care hospital laboratories is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of laboratory science principles.
- Experience operating automated laboratory analyzers.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance and regulatory standards.
- Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

Range of compensation is based on years of experience - $ 34.00 up to $47.00/hr
