POSITION SUMMARY:  



To properly operate and maintain the mammography equipment to produce mammograms for diagnostic purposes.


Essential Responsibilities:


1. Clean and organize the darkroom.


2. Performs mammography exams.  Verifies the order and resolves any questions.


3. Explains procedure to patient but does not give results or any other type of indication or 

            information.  Answers the patient’s questions and concerns.


4. Assists patient when necessary, changing, adjusting to equipment, and prepares and 

             positions patient for examination.  If applicable, prepares contrast media and verifies the 

             proper contrast is used.


5. Checks to be sure patient has signed the appropriate consent and if applicable, that is not 

            allergic to contrast.


6. Maintains a clean and safe environment in the mammography area as well as radiology 

            areas.  Cleans the mammography room after each use.


7. Reports equipment malfunction immediately to supervisor.


8. Provides high quality patient care by maintaining the safety, comfort and dignity of the 

            patient at all times.


9. Treats patients, physicians, visitors and families with respect at all times.  Uses proper 

             phone etiquette.  Practices customer service standards and handles all matters with the 

             utmost care as to confidentiality and patient rights.


10. Conduct daily quality control utilizing the sensitometer and densitometer.  Participates in 

            the hospital’s QAPI, safety and infection control studies as assigned.



11. May be required to vary shifts and / or weekend rotation as the needs of the department 

            dictate.  Occasionally may require overtime.


12. Reviews all mammography/breast ultrasound jackets.


13. Responsible for mailing patient letters (results/6 month follow up/certified).


14.        May be crossed trained in other areas where applicable

• Understand technical information from supervisors charts reference books, manuals, and  

             labels.

• Use eyes, hands, and fingers with skill.

• Work fast in an emergency observing safety at all times.

• Communicate with people when they are sick, handicapped, or nervous.

• Change from one duty to another frequently.

• Follow instructions exactly.

• Record information accurately.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish)


Physical Demands:


Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.


Environmental Conditions:


Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.


Hazards: Subject to exposure to electrical and radiant energy hazards.


Reasoning, Mathematical and Language Development are indicative of the general level of development required to do this job.


Relationships to Data, People and Things:

Data: Compiling, gathering, collating, or classifying information about data, people or 

            things.  Reporting and / or carrying out a prescribed action in relation to information is 

            frequently involved.


People: Speaking-Signaling; Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange 

            information.  Includes giving assignments and or directions to helpers or assistants.


Things: Operating-Controlling; starting, stopping, controlling and adjusting the progress 

            of machines or equipment.  Operating machines involves setting up and adjusting the 

            machine or materials as the work progresses.  Controlling involves observing progress of 

            operations and turning devices to regulate reactions of materials.  



Specific Vocational Preparation:


• Graduation from an accredited program of radiologic technology. (Certified and/or 

             registered in mammography)


To do this job, you must have the following licenses or certifications before being hired:


• Current Florida Radiologic Technologist license.

• BLS certification


To do this job, you must have the following amount of total education and / or experience.


• Minimum of one year experience.
