JOB TITLE: Sylvan Teacher  

DIVISION: Sylvan Learning Center of Windsor, Colorado

REPORTS TO: Center Director

TO BEGIN: Mid-August

 

GENERAL SUMMARY


Sylvan Teachers are responsible for creating a positive and personalized learning experience for students, teaching students using Sylvan methods and materials.  Sylvan Teachers motivate and encourage students in forming good learning habits, evaluate student progress on each assignment, and work with center staff to ensure learning is personal for each student. 


Our goal is to help students grow in confidence and find joy in the learning process. Our tutors know how to engage and motivate students so they’ll actually want to come to tutoring. That leads to better grades and long-term academic success.


COMPENSATION AND HOURS


This is a part-time position, offering 10-15 hours per week on Monday-Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Pay ranges from $17-$20 per hour, depending on expertise and experience.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


·       Complete certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students

·       Prepare for each instructional session; Gather and prepare materials as appropriate based on each student’s Learning Plan

·        Greet students and initiate instruction to personally engage each student

·        Instruct students according to the design of their personal Sylvan program

·        Manage groups of 2-4 students to create a balanced and robust instructional session for each student

·        Evaluate and record the progress of each student on their program assignment 

·        Use praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn

·        Motivate students with Sylvan tokens given according to the Sylvan instructional management standards

·        Record and track tokens earned by students 

·        Manage the conclusion of each instructional session and completion of learning log and transition activities; Support procedures to ensure student safety and well-being

·        Communicate specific student needs to center staff

·        Attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed

·       Deliver 1:1 assessments for new students, and for established students due for progress assessments

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS


·  Four-year degree related to area of instruction is required

·  Comfort with technology is required (tablets and basic technological literacy)

·  Teaching experience and credentials are preferred

·  Background check is required

·        Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn

·        Strong interpersonal and communication skills

·        Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible

·        Strong problem solving and customer service skills

·        Strong team player
