- 5 to 8 years of healthcare or laboratory billing experience
- 2+ years of experience managing a team
- Experience with appeals filing and overturning appeals
- Excel experience, including pivot tables; Decision IQ reporting and Power BI experience preferred
FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Billing Supervisor to oversee billing operations, team performance, reporting, payor trends, appeals, reimbursement review, escalated billing inquiries, and process improvement within a healthcare or laboratory billing environment. This role is responsible for preparing and presenting billing reports, reviewing aging and adjustment reports, supporting revenue recognition goals, coaching team members, managing performance, and ensuring billing practices comply with applicable federal and state requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong healthcare billing experience, leadership experience, advanced Excel skills, appeals experience, and knowledge of diagnostic or laboratory billing requirements.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Preparing periodic reports on team effectiveness to establish production and quality standards
- Preparing and presenting monthly reporting results to Billing and Finance leadership
- Reviewing various reports, including aging, adjustment requests, and collection agency accounts
- Ensuring payor reimbursement is aligned with active payor contracts
- Identifying payor trends and resolving areas of concern
- Collaborating with other departments to achieve revenue recognition targets
- Training and coaching team members
- Providing performance feedback to assigned staff
- Reviewing training processes to identify efficiencies and drive improvement
- Cultivating, maintaining, and enhancing intradepartmental and professional relationships
- Monitoring and evaluating individual performance
- Completing annual performance reviews for assigned staff
- Serving as the primary point of contact for escalated billing inquiries and disputes
- Working toward timely resolution of billing issues and disputes
- Assisting with technology implementation, including project planning and management
- Supporting process improvement initiatives within billing operations
- Ensuring compliance with federal and state legislation related to billing matters
- Performing other duties as assigned
The selected candidate will also possess:
- 5 to 8+ years of billing experience in a healthcare environment required
- Laboratory billing experience preferred
- 2+ years of leadership experience required
- Experience managing a team required
- Experience with hiring, performance management, disciplinary processes, and staff development preferred
- Experience filing appeals and overturning appeals required
- Strong understanding of healthcare billing processes
- Strong understanding of Palmetto MolDX program and diagnostic billing requirements preferred
- Working knowledge of appropriate coding systems, including CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS
- Knowledge of coverage, LCD/NCD, and reimbursement associated with billing codes
- Quadax experience strongly preferred
- Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Pivot, and internet research experience required
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Decision IQ reporting and Power BI experience preferred
- Effective problem-solving skills in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to provide training to staff, leadership, other departments, and new employees
- Strong reporting and presentation skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Ability to manage escalated billing inquiries and disputes professionally
- Project management certification, such as PMP, is a plus
- Ability to work onsite in Carlsbad, CA
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
- Ability to communicate by phone, email, video meeting, and in person throughout the workday
- Ability to review billing reports, aging reports, adjustment requests, collection agency accounts, payor contracts, appeals, reimbursement data, coding information, spreadsheets, and computer screens for extended periods
- Ability to use hands and fingers for typing, data entry, reporting, documentation, spreadsheet work, and standard office tasks
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the office as needed
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move standard office files, documents, or supplies
Salary Range: $75,000 to $85,000/year
