Job Description
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MedSurg unit provides essential support to the nursing team by assisting patients with daily activities and ensuring their comfort and safety. The CNA plays a critical role in maintaining patient hygiene, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring the overall well-being of patients undergoing medical and surgical treatments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
• Monitor and record vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Assist patients in repositioning, turning, and transferring between beds, chairs, and other surfaces, ensuring proper body mechanics.
• Help patients with ambulation and mobility, including walking or using assistive devices.
• Maintain patient hygiene by providing bed baths, changing linens, and attending to personal grooming needs.
• Observe and report any changes in patient condition to the nursing staff, including unusual behavior or physical symptoms.
• Assist in feeding patients and monitoring food and fluid intake, following dietary restrictions.
• Ensure patient rooms are clean, safe, and stocked with necessary supplies.
• Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families during hospital stays.
• Assist in the preparation of patients for procedures, tests, or surgeries as directed by the nursing team.
• Follow infection control procedures and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
• Support RNs and other staff with routine tasks, including transporting patients within the hospital as needed.
Qualifications:
• Current certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Louisiana.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 90 days of hire.
• Experience in a hospital or MedSurg unit preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Compassionate and patient-focused with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks efficiently.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
• Capacity to lift or move patients and medical equipment as needed.
Work Environment:
This position requires working in a hospital environment, often in close contact with patients and staff. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
