Job Description
The Director of Construction Inspection Services leads and manages the Construction Inspection Department, overseeing both field and office operations to ensure high-quality, compliant, and efficient project delivery. This role combines technical civil engineering expertise with strong leadership, department management, and client-facing responsibilities. The director builds and mentors a team of inspectors, coordinates complex public-sector projects, and drives continuous improvement in procedures, quality standards, and service offerings.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage the Construction Inspection Department, providing direction, mentorship, training, and performance management for inspection staff.
- Oversee day-to-day field and office operations to ensure projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with client, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
- Assign inspection personnel to projects, manage department staffing levels, and balance workloads to meet schedule and budget commitments.
- Review inspection reports, daily logs, project records, and client deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project specifications and standards.
- Serve as a technical resource for inspectors, project managers, clients, and public agencies, providing guidance on construction methods, codes, and inspection procedures.
- Ensure all inspection activities comply with applicable standards, codes, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve project issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to support successful project delivery and departmental efficiency.
- Participate in business development activities, including proposal preparation, scope development, and client relationship management to support growth in inspection services.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve departmental procedures, quality control standards, and operational best practices.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress, assess staff performance, and verify the quality of construction and inspection work.
- Support strategic growth initiatives by identifying opportunities to expand inspection service offerings and enhance the department’s capabilities.
- Collaborate with internal engineering, planning, and field services teams to ensure integrated, multidisciplinary project delivery.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, safety, and high-quality service within the inspection team.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in construction inspection, civil engineering, or construction management.
- Minimum 5+ years of leadership or supervisory experience managing inspection teams or technical staff.
- Proven experience running or managing a construction inspection department or similar operational unit.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, project specifications, and industry standards.
- Experience overseeing infrastructure, transportation, site development, utility, municipal, or vertical construction projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and personnel simultaneously in both field and office environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with inspectors, engineers, clients, and public agencies.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Ability to interpret and apply construction documents, codes, and specifications in both field and office settings.
- Experience with construction inspection and construction management processes, including documentation, reporting, and quality control.
- Engineering background that includes both field and office experience.
- Familiarity with ACI-related standards or certifications and their application in construction inspection.
- Experience working with construction documents and on active construction sites.
- background in public-sector projects, including municipal, infrastructure, and transportation work.
- Experience contributing to or leading business development, proposal preparation, and client relationship activities.
- Proven ability to drive efficient management of inspection personnel and project workloads.
- Track record of delivering high-quality and timely project deliverables that meet regulatory and client expectations.

The role involves a balanced mix of office and field work, and the director must be comfortable operating in both environments. In the office, you will work closely with engineers, planners, surveyors, technicians, CAD designers, drafters, and field services representatives as part of a multidisciplinary team. Field work includes regular site visits to active construction projects to monitor progress, assess quality, and support inspection staff.
