Job Title: CNC Operator

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC mills and lathes to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, facing, and threading on metal parts including castings, forgings, and bar stock.
  • Load and unload parts from CNC machines safely and efficiently throughout the production process.
  • Change out and replace cutting tools, inserts, and tooling components as needed to maintain proper machining performance.
  • Monitor machine operations and make basic adjustments to ensure parts meet quality and dimensional specifications.
  • Use inspection tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify part dimensions and ensure adherence to required tolerances.
  • Follow established setup instructions when operating machines that have been prepared by a setup machinist.
  • Support and learn machine setup activities over time, with the goal of progressing toward independently setting up CNC mills and lathes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in the machine shop and follow standard safety practices.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status, issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Adhere to work instructions, production schedules, and quality standards while meeting productivity expectations.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience operating CNC mills and/or CNC lathes in a machining or machine shop environment.
  • Ability to perform basic machining operations, including turning, boring, facing, and threading.
  • Familiarity with CNC machine controls, particularly systems such as Fanuc and Haas.
  • Competence in using precision inspection tools, including micrometers and calipers, to measure and verify part dimensions.
  • Understanding of general machining practices and workflows within a machine shop setting.
  • Good soft skills, including communication, reliability, teamwork, and a professional attitude.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and interpret basic machining documentation.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts within specified tolerances.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with CNC mills and lathes in a production machine shop environment.
  • Experience in machining operations involving castings, forgings, and bar stock.
  • Exposure to CNC machine setup activities, including tooling selection and basic program adjustments.
  • Familiarity with different CNC machine brands and platforms, such as Fanuc and Haas controls.
  • Interest in developing skills in full machine setup and more advanced machining techniques over time.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alexandria, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
