Special Education Para Professional in Independence, MO

Discover the opportunity to support students in North Kansas City, Missouri as a dynamic paraprofessional on a per diem basis for the 2024-2025 academic year! You’ll use your passion and skills to assist students in special education settings throughout the district’s 33 schools—primarily elementary—with options to work as little as one day or as many as five days a week.

Your focus will be on helping students with diverse learning and behavioral needs. Assignments may include providing one-on-one support, serving as a classroom aide, and helping implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). Some roles may involve assisting with toileting or other personal care requirements. Assignments are offered on a per diem basis, with schedules and locations managed conveniently through an app.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Active MO Substitute Certificate from DESE (must be valid before start; applicants in process are encouraged)
• Ability to pass fingerprinting and background check specific to the district
• Experience working with students with disabilities, behavioral needs, or in special education preferred
• Familiarity with BIPs and experience supporting students with behavioral challenges is a plus
• Reliable, adaptable, and able to work on short notice

Responsibilities:

• Assist educators in classroom management and individual student support
• Follow individualized BIPs and support plans
• Engage actively with students throughout the school day
• Complete required documentation and communicate effectively with staff
