Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and an active MI RN license.

Details\n
    \n
  • Work in a 5-bed ICU with 2 IMC beds in the hallway within an acute care Trauma Level 4 hospital setting
  • \n
  • Nurse to patient ratios of 2:1 in ICU and 3:1 in IMC depending on acuity
  • \n
  • Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, septic shock, detox, DKA, A-fib, and arrhythmias requiring pacing with a strong focus on vent management
  • \n
  • No pulmonology, dialysis, or cardiac surgery patients on this unit
  • \n
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Levophed, propofol, cardizem, esmolol, and insulin
  • \n
  • Charge nurse takes a full patient assignment
  • \n
  • No nurse aides on this unit
  • \n
  • Hospitalist or intensivist in-house until 6pm daily, with ICU Tele Physician coverage overnight
  • \n
  • Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 but not housed in the ICU; RNs must be comfortable troubleshooting vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow equipment
  • \n
  • Tele/monitor techs on-site from 0700-1900 daily; RNs verify their own strips and are trained to monitor Med/Surg strips as well
  • \n
  • Uses Cerner EMR, which is transitioning to Epic
  • \n
  • Shift schedule is 12-hour shifts rotating days and nights (0700-1900 and 1900-0700)
  • \n
  • Weekend rotation required including every other weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • \n
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 of 3 major holidays
  • \n
  • On-call/standby opportunities may be required
  • \n
  • Floating to Med/Surg required, with potential ratios of 1:3-6
  • \n
Requirements\n

  • Active MI RN license required
  • \n
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • \n
  • Must be comfortable floating to Med/Surg Telemetry
  • \n
  • Critical Access or Trauma Level 3/4 experience preferred, or experience in a rural hospital setting
  • \n
  • Comfortable working with limited onsite resources (no dedicated IV team, RT covers entire hospital)
  • \n
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred as facility transitions to Epic
  • \n

  • Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced ICU setting with vent management as a core skill
  • \n
  • Assist with troubleshooting respiratory equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow devices
  • \n
  • Verify own telemetry strips and monitor Med/Surg unit strips as needed, with training provided
  • \n
  • Unit and department-specific orientation includes an 8-hour computer education day, a 12-hour shadow shift, and independent work by day three
  • \n
  • Self-scheduling is accommodated when possible, though shift blocking cannot be guaranteed
  • \n
  • Dress code requires solid, professional-colored scrubs with no specific color requirement
  • \n
  • All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
  • \n
  • Candidates who previously worked for the facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
