Qualified Applicants, send resume to:  Employment@aami.org The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is at an exciting point as it approaches the 60-year mark, and seeks a VP of Industry for the next chapter.  AAMI’s mission is to ensure the safe and effective use of healthcare technology, and our primary means of accomplishing that mission is the development, adoption, and application of voluntary consensus Standards and other consensus-based guidance; and providing related education, training, certifications, events, and products.  The VP of Industry is a critical role at AAMI responsible for ensuring our work aligns with the needs of our medical device manufacturer and regulatory agency stakeholders. As part subject matter expert, part business development leader, and part business strategist, this role serves as a key member of the AAMI Leadership Team (LT) and will play a critical role in positioning AAMI to meet the needs of the future.  This role is responsible for supporting AAMI industry and regulatory stakeholders (those involved in bringing medical technologies to market) in collaboration with all the service areas of AAMI’s standards development, training, events, media, and more. This in-person senior role is located in Arlington, VA, and requires regular weekly (and sometimes daily) on-site presence to help AAMI achieve and sustain cohesive momentum.  Reports to the Chief Growth Officer and partners closely with fellow LT members, Staff, and external stakeholders to advance performance excellence (effectiveness and efficiency), to enhance Association and Staff activities (continuous improvement), and to help AAMI grow (in scope and scale).  This position for an employee residing in the DMV area follows a hybrid work schedule with a mix each week of onsite days in the Arlington office plus local telework days from home.  Essential Duties (Responsibilities) Segment Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to support the needs of medical device manufacturers and regulatory agencies, addressing current opportunities and challenges while driving mission-focused, financially sustainable growth. Standards Development: Working closely with the VP of Standards, ensure the health and viability of the industry-focused standards portfolio by identifying gaps and opportunities for new work items. Community Development: Serve as an organizational ambassador to identify and pursue new members, partners, and alliances within the medical device industry. Business Development: Working with the LT and others, assess existing products and services for industry and regulatory customers (standards, publications, educational offerings, events, etc.) and identify new needed products and services. Build a demand pipeline for AAMI products and services by generating sales Leads, qualifying Prospects, and closing—and/or materially assist AAMI P&L Horizontal Departments in closing—identified revenue-producing Deals. Member and Stakeholder Insights: Serve as internal subject-matter expert and voice of the customer. Conduct in-depth market research and analysis to understand their needs, industry trends, and the competitive landscape. Use these insights to inform strategy and product development. Product Alignment: Collaborate with product development and management teams to ensure offerings meet the unique needs of medical device manufacturers and regulators. Sales and Marketing Enablement: Work closely with the marketing/sales team to develop and execute marketing and sales strategies, provide market insights, and support efforts to achieve revenue targets. Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key members, industry partners, and stakeholders in the medical device sector. Performance Monitoring: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of vertical market initiatives. Regularly review and adjust strategies to ensure objectives are met. Team Leadership: Serve as a leader and mentor across the AAMI organization. While this role has no direct reports, AAMI is a matrixed organization and all members of the LT play a critical role in fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture focused on achieving mission objectives. LT members are expected to help develop early-career/mid-career staff. Team Interactions: AAMI is a small, nimble organization and everyone in the organization has a hands-on role, including senior leadership. Success in this role requires a willingness to pitch in wherever needed to make AAMI successful. Perform other duties as assigned within areas of responsibility. Minimum Required Qualifications Required Education BA/BS degree in a related field Required Experience Minimum of 15 years of progressively increasing experience in medical devices area(s), preferably within a medical device manufacturer or a related regulatory body, with a strong focus on quality, risk, and/or standards Demonstrated history of working on and motivating high-performing, cross-functional teams and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement Proven track record of partnering effectively across matrixed environments for growth and innovation Required Expertise Strong understanding of medical device standards, preferably with direct experience in standards development and/or medical device regulation Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated proficiency in market research tools and software Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment Preferred Qualifications Preferred Education Graduate degree in relevant areas (e.g., MBA or relevant Master’s degree, etc.) highly desired, and/or relevant certification (s) highly desired (e.g., SES certifications, ASQ quality certifications, CAE, PMP, other relevant post-Graduate certificates, etc.) Preferred Experience Demonstrated success as a senior individual contributor or manager in a national non-profit, military, established commercial enterprise, and/or other government organizations Proven history of supporting, facilitating, and guiding volunteer committees, working groups, panels, etc. Demonstrated track record of growing programs and organizations, and of achieving growth targets Preferred Expertise Familiarity with Associations in the medical device industry Strong strategic, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to translate vision into execution; high ethical standards and strong negotiating skills with ability to take prudent risks Demonstrated ability to interpret and leverage data analytics and business intelligence tools to inform business planning, forecasting, and operational decisions Strong collaboration skills, intellectual curiosity, and a growth mindset; demonstrated successful experience building or scaling a business including responsibility for P&L Working Conditions This position is located in Arlington, VA and the successful candidate will live in the immediate DMV area permitting rapid access to the AAMI office. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the AAMI office location.  Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Travel domestically (generally about 15 trips annually, but can be more), and occasionally internationally, is required to support mission execution, business needs, and team integration; evening/weekend work as required to support AAMI events, deadlines, or special initiatives. Hybrid work schedule, two or more days weekly in office, sometimes at least one additional day in office based on mission/business needs. Flexibility required to increase days in office based on mission/business needs.
