Job Description
Kentucky Medication Aide (KMA) / Med Tech:
(Must have CNA license and KMA certification for consideration)
POSITION PURPOSE:
Ensure proper dosage, distribution, and documentation of medication administration in accordance with
physician orders and following State and Federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
• Prepare medications for resident administration as specified in the physician order, verifying
medication, dose, route, time, and reason for administration.• Safely administering resident medication by verifying correct resident, obtaining any required
vital signs pre-administration, assisting with resident repositioning as needed, and administering
at a pace comfortable to the resident.• Document medication administration in the medical record.
• Maintain medication cart in a clean and efficient manner.
• Ensure timely medication reorders from pharmacy as indicated.
• Label/date opened medication bottles/vials/boxes as indicated.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include State Registered Nurse Aide (CNA)
duties for which the KMA is qualified. This may include, but is not limited to, assists with
resident transfers and positioning, ambulation, activities of daily living including personal care, or
feeding assistance. (AKA MUST WORK AS CNA AS NEEDED)
EDUCATION / REQUIREMENTS:
A State Registered Nurse Aide that has successfully completed Kentucky Medication Aide training.
Maintain current/active SRNA and KMA status by completing required annual training.
