Clinical Dietitian - Hospital | Location: Chico, CA 95926

Compensation: $38+ per hour based on experience, degrees, and specialty certificates

Full-Time | Schedule: ~8am-4:30pm, 4 to 5 days a week

Job Summary

Make a meaningful impact on patient health through expert nutrition care as a Clinical Dietitian! In this role, you'll provide Medical Nutrition Therapy in a highly rated 300-bed acute care facility, delivering personalized nutrition care for patients across a wide range of disease states. Working alongside physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, you'll help improve outcomes, support recovery, and make a meaningful difference in patients' lives every day.


What you'll do

  • Conduct nutrition assessments for patients within required time frames. Obtain timely and appropriate data and analyze/interpret findings based on evidence‑based standards.
  • Provide nutrition support primarily for Behavioral Health patients within an acute hospital environment and collaborate on medically complex cases as needed.
  • Provide appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient's medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and plan/goals. Once implemented, the clinical dietitian will monitor progress toward established goals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care conferences and discharge planning activities, as appropriate. Work closely with other disciplines including OT, PT, speech, and social services to ensure collaboration of care.
  • Perform nutrition diagnosis after identifying the problem and collaborate with the patient's medical team to clarify contributing factors.
  • Develop, implement, and/or make recommendations for individualized nutrition interventions, including enteral and parenteral nutrition, as clinically indicated.
  • Review and approve therapeutic diets to ensure compliance with all state and federal guidelines.
  • Assess and evaluate nutrition approaches that consider age‑specific needs as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic considerations.
  • Work collaboratively with dining service staff to assure accuracy of diet prescriptions and support a high level of patient satisfaction.
  • Provide appropriate follow‑up in accordance with the patient's treatment goals, referring patients for outpatient counseling, community resources, or home services, as appropriate. Conduct in‑services and educational presentations to hospital or department staff.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities, as required.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new dietitians and DTRs. Function as a preceptor to dietetic students and interns. Plan learning experiences, teach, and evaluate the performance of students and interns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will need

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification or RD-Eligible.
  • CDR card
  • ServSafe certification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
