A day in the life

You open your toolbox, check your wire feed, and dial in the settings on your MIG (GMAW) machine. The print on your bench lays out the next build: accurately cut components, square them in a fixture, and run clean, consistent beads for a tight, true assembly. You verify measurements twice, tack in sequence, then stitch the final passes—minimal distortion, maximum integrity. By mid‑day, you’re collaborating with a fabricator to refine a fit-up, and before clocking out, you inspect every weld and leave your station spotless for tomorrow.

What you’ll do

• Perform MIG/GMAW welding on steel components for assemblies and subassemblies.
• Fabricate parts: fit, tack, and finish per drawings, jigs, and fixtures.
• Interpret blueprints and weld symbols to plan sequence and ensure accuracy.
• Operate shop tools (grinders, saws, drills) to prep and finish workpieces.
• Conduct self-inspections for quality, dimensions, and weld integrity.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
