Job Description Full-Time Medical Assistant – Dermatology Practice

Port Jefferson Dermatology, with locations in Port Jefferson Station and Patchogue, is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Full-Time Medical Assistant to join our busy dermatology practice. The ideal candidate is committed to providing excellent patient care, thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment, and enjoys working collaboratively with physicians and staff to deliver exceptional patient experiences.
Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding patient care while ensuring a positive patient experience.
- Assist physicians during patient examinations and office visits.
- Assist physicians with minor surgical and dermatologic procedures.
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and supplies for procedures.
- Sterilize and maintain surgical instruments in accordance with infection control guidelines.
- Verify patient demographics, medical history, medications, and insurance information.
- Document patient information accurately using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Prepare, label, and process specimens for laboratory testing.
- Communicate with pharmacies regarding prescriptions and medication requests.
- Process prior authorizations for medications and treatments.
- Return patient phone calls and respond to patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and assist with scheduling and patient communication.
- Perform administrative duties, including recordkeeping, data entry, and maintaining accurate medical records.
- Support providers and clinical staff with daily workflow and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Previous dermatology experience preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional, compassionate, and patient-focused attitude.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
