School Cook - Substitute

The School Cook operates standard kitchen equipment to prepare meals according to predetermined menus, ensuring nutritional standards and quality. This role involves assisting staff and students in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards, and supporting the overall food service operation within a small team environment. The substitute cook collaborates with school staff for meal service and event support while adhering to all reporting and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare main dishes, salads, dressings, breads, and special menu items following recipes
• Operate standard ovens, stoves, food processors, slicers, and dishwashing equipment
• Portion food in compliance with school meal program guidelines
• Assist in setting up and serving food lines
• Clean and maintain kitchen, storage areas, freezers, and refrigerators to meet cleanliness standards
• Maintain inventory of kitchen equipment and food supplies
• Document nutrition data, meals served, purchasing contracts, and free/reduced meal information for audits
• Collaborate with food service staff, teachers, and students for meal preparation and school events
• Support compliance with all Oregon Department of Education (ODE) reporting and inspection requirements
• Perform general cleaning and other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years experience in food service
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Proficiency in food preparation and adhering to sanitation standards
• Experience managing inventory and operating kitchen equipment
• Ability to follow recipes and control portion sizes
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
