Clinical Pharmacy Operations Manager

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and collaborative Clinical Pharmacy Operations Manager to lead inpatient pharmacy operations within a progressive acute care hospital. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, medication safety, and the efficient delivery of pharmacy services.

The ideal candidate is a strong people leader with expertise in hospital pharmacy operations, sterile compounding, medication safety, and process improvement. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact by optimizing workflows, mentoring pharmacy staff, and driving quality initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide operational leadership for inpatient pharmacy services, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant medication distribution processes.

  • Oversee sterile and non-sterile compounding operations while maintaining compliance with USP standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Lead medication safety initiatives by identifying opportunities for risk reduction, analyzing medication error trends, and implementing continuous quality improvement strategies.

  • Chair or actively participate in interdisciplinary medication safety and pharmacy committees.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop pharmacy technicians and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.

  • Manage pharmacy workflow, staffing, inventory, and operational resources to ensure high-quality patient care and efficient service delivery.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and hospital leadership to improve medication-use processes and support organizational goals.

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory agencies, and institutional policies.

Qualifications

Education

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.

  • Completion of a PGY1 or PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency required.

Licensure

  • Current pharmacist license or eligibility for pharmacist licensure in the applicable state.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of recent hospital pharmacy experience.

  • Progressive leadership or supervisory experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.

  • Strong knowledge of sterile compounding regulations, medication safety practices, and pharmacy operations.

  • Proven leadership and team development experience.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.

  • Experience leading operational change and process improvement initiatives.
