As a Senior Accountant your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Evaluate monthly project and division-level financial results, identify variances, and work closely with project leaders to keep spending and timelines aligned with approved plans.
• Develop quarterly management reports that summarize financial performance, highlight key trends, and support leadership decision-making.
• Participate in the monthly close process by preparing journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, and reviewing reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
• Track benefit-related expenses such as healthcare, pension, and other fringe costs to help ensure budgets remain accurate and well controlled.
• Advise department leadership and project teams on accounting treatment, financial procedures, and grant-related administration at the project or contract level.
• Enhance reporting processes by analyzing organization-wide budgets and forecasting expenditure patterns to improve monitoring of cost trends.
• Support annual audit and compliance activities, including preparation of schedules, gathering documentation, and responding to audit requests.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and assist with indirect cost and post-employment benefit analyses.
• Provide cross-functional support for accounting, payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, and other finance-related initiatives, including special projects and process improvements.
The ideal Senior Accountant will have the following:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience with month-end close activities, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting practices, and business operations.
• Proficiency with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
• Experience preparing or supporting audits; government audit exposure within a public accounting environment is preferred.
• Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and recommend practical process or control improvements.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
• Proven ability to build productive working relationships with colleagues, vendors, and external representatives.
