PART-TIME WEEKENDS

The Treatment Nurse will provide treatments and skin care to residents under the medical direction and supervision of the residents’ attending physicians, the Director of Nursing, the Medical Director of the facility and/or the Wound Care Practitioner with an emphasis on treatment and therapy of skin disorders.   This position will also assist in modifying the treatment regimen to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident, in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, state and federal requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Confers with the Director of Nursing and/or other licensed nursing personnel regarding dermatologic disorders of residents in the facility.
  • Consults with the IDT concerning assessments, evaluations and assist in planning and developing the skin care treatment to be performed for the resident.
  • Initiates request for consultations or referrals for skin conditions. Responds to requests from the resident, physician, and nursing staff.
  • Examines the resident and his/her charts, and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings, to recognize when to refer the resident to a physician for additional evaluation, supervision, and directions.
  • Conduct routine skin assessments/evaluations and monitor residents for potential breakdown, reporting changes to the DON/ADON and medical provider as appropriate.
  • Implements and maintain established policies and procedures relative to skin care treatments and interprets these as required, to the physician and responsible party.
  • Ensure proper use of treatment supplies and equipment, maintain an adequate inventory.
  • Serves on the Interdisciplinary team and works with the IDT to develop comprehensive assessments and care plans for assigned residents.
  • Identifies, manages, and treats specific skin disorders, pressure ulcers, primary and secondary lesions, and any skin issues directed to by Director of Nursing.
  • Performs assessment/evaluation using techniques including observation, inspection, and palpation.
  • Provides, within established protocols and under the supervision of the physician, treatment for skin disorders as ordered by the physician.
  • Ensures that residents with or at risk for decubitus ulcers, vascular ulcers, and various other skin conditions receive appropriate treatment and/or prophylactic treatment.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

Education and/or Experience:

  • At least two years' experience working in Wound Care preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse with required state Licensure.
  • Current CPR certification or CPR certification within 90 days of employment
