Position Summary

\n

The Director of Operations owns the day-to-day performance of our manufacturing facility. This person is accountable for hitting production targets, controlling costs, maintaining full regulatory compliance, and building the teams and systems that let us scale. The role sits at the intersection of plant science, manufacturing, supply chain, compliance, and people leadership - and it requires someone who can operate both strategically and lead on the manufacturing floor.

The Director of Operations will translate company goals into operational plans, keep cultivation and production running efficiently and in lockstep with state regulations, and drive continuous improvement across yield, quality, throughput, and margin.

Key Responsibilities

\n

Operations & Production Leadership

\n
    \n
  • Own end-to-end facility operations across cultivation, harvest, post-harvest, extraction/processing, packaging, and fulfillment.
  • \n
  • Set and hit production targets for yield, throughput, quality, and cost per unit/gram.
  • \n
  • Develop and manage production schedules that balance demand forecasts, capacity, and inventory levels.
  • \n
  • Establish, document, and continuously improve SOPs across all departments.
  • \n
  • Drive process improvement and lean/continuous-improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste and shrinkage.

\n

Cultivation & Manufacturing Oversight

\n
    \n
  • Oversee cultivation operations: environmental controls, IPM, nutrient programs, and crop scheduling (in partnership with the Cultivation Manager).
  • \n
  • Oversee manufacturing/processing: extraction, infusion, formulation, and packaging ensuring consistency and product quality.
  • \n
  • Coordinate lab testing, manage failed/retest batches, and drive corrective actions.
  • \n
  • Uphold GMP (and cGMP where applicable) and food-safety standards across production.
  • \n

Compliance & Quality

\n
    \n
  • Ensure full compliance with all state and local cannabis regulations, licensing conditions, and reporting requirements.
  • \n
  • Own seed-to-sale track-and-trace accuracy in [METRC / BioTrack/state system], including reconciliation and audit readiness.
  • \n
  • Partner with Compliance to maintain quality management systems.
  • \n
  • Serve as a key point of contact during regulatory inspections and audits.
  • \n
  • Maintain facility security protocols in line with state requirements (access control, surveillance, chain of custody).
  • \n

\n

Inventory, Supply Chain & Vendor Management

\n
    \n
  • Oversee inventory management, cycle counts, and reconciliation to minimize variance and loss.
  • \n
  • Manage procurement of inputs, packaging, and equipment; negotiate and manage vendor and supplier relationships.
  • \n
  • Optimize supply chain and logistics for inbound materials and outbound fulfillment to wholesale/retail partners.
  • \n

Financial & Business Management

\n

  • Build and manage the operations budget; own P&L accountability for the facility.
  • \n
  • Track and report on KPIs (yield, cost per gram, labor efficiency, downtime, shrinkage, on-time fulfillment).
  • \n
  • Evaluate capital investments in equipment, automation, and facility expansion; build business cases and manage buildouts.
  • \n

People Leadership

\n

  • Lead, mentor, and develop department managers and their teams.
  • \n
  • Own workforce planning, hiring, training, and performance management for operations staff.
  • \n
  • Build a culture of accountability, safety, and quality.
  • \n
  • Ensure workplace health and safety (OSHA) compliance and maintain a safe working environment.
  • \n

Qualifications

\n

Required

\n
    \n
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) in operations, supply chain, business, engineering, horticulture, food science, or a related field - or equivalent experience.
  • \n
  • Seven years of operations leadership experience in a manufacturing, production, cultivation, food/beverage, pharmaceutical, or CPG environment.
  • \n
  • Five years managing teams, including managing managers.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated P&L ownership and budget management.
  • \n
  • Working knowledge of seed-to-sale tracking systems (METRC/BioTrack) and cannabis regulatory frameworks or proven ability to master a highly regulated production environment quickly.
  • \n
  • Strong command of production planning, inventory control, and process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar).
  • \n
  • Must be 21+ and able to pass a background check and obtain any required state cannabis agent/employee credentials.
  • \n

Preferred

  • Direct experience in a licensed cannabis manufacturing operation.
  • \n
  • Experience scaling operations or leading a facility expansion or new-facility buildout.
  • \n
  • GMP/cGMP, HACCP, ISO, or food-safety experience.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with automation and equipment used in extraction, processing, or packaging.
  • \n
  • Experience with ERP/MRP and production-management software.
  • \n

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Fully on-site role in a cultivation/manufacturing facility; exposure to plant material, cannabis odor, humidity, temperature variation, and production equipment.
  • \n
  • Ability to move about the facility for extended periods, and to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • \n
  • May require occasional evening, weekend, or on-call availability to support production and harvest cycles.
